Last season Colton had a reasonable run in this cup competition - The Yorkshire OB Shield. But it wasn't to be this time. Within 15 mins, Horsforth were 0 - 2 up. Colton matched the Premier League outfit in every department except that ruthlessness in front of goal.
Prior to the two early goals Colton had their chances but werent taken.
Horsforth scored on 8 mins from sloppy defending with a tap in. 7 mins later a free kick was deflected off a Colton player in the wall and looped past Adam Hartley in the Colton net.
Colton came into the game more and threatened, however when they carved out oppurtunities they couldnt capitilise. Their assertiveness and build up play was very good in parts.
Colton went looking for the goal that would get them back into the game before the half time oranges were due. Unfortunatley on 43 mins Colton went to sleep from a corner and Horsforth prodded home for an easy third. 0 - 3.
Half time 0 - 3. Second half was even, Colton probed and pushed without much luck. Horsforth kept the ball moving to test the Colton defence. Both teams having efforts well saved or firing just wide.
Could Colton get a goal or two to set up a rousing finish? No, they couldnt and when Horsforth scored their fourth from a "wordly" free kick some 35 yards out it was very much all over with 6 mins to play.
The scoreline flattered Horsforth. There is no disputing that they were the better team and deserved to go through however Colton pushed them all the way and should be proud of the way they "had a go" and approached the game with such energy.
Final score 0 - 4.
