Colton 1 – 0 Leeds Independent
Clear goal scoring opportunities were at a premium; however, Colton eventually managed to break down a very stubborn Leeds defence to give them another three points.
There was plenty of huff and puff from both sides to score first. Colton had a few corners that came to nought. A wild swing from a Leeds defender saw the ball blow onto the cross bar. At the other end, Adam Hartley saved expertly as a low shot was heading into the bottom corner.
The Leeds keeper saved well from Danny Coates and Max McCormick, but the game was scrappy even though Colton played the better stuff.
Half time 0 – 0
James Green broke the deadlock on 47 minutes. His swift turn and low shot from a pass by Coates saw the ball planted firmly in the Leeds net.
Leeds tried to get level, but Colton defended well. The hosts should have extended their lead when McCormick was upended in the box. The resulting penalty was saved.
As Leeds pushed forward, gaps appeared for Colton to exploit. However, with a combination of poor passing and making the wrong choice in the final third, the score line stayed at 1 – 0.
Colton are scheduled to play Idle away next week.
