Old Boys Shield - Rd 1.

Colton progressed to the next round of the Shield with an emphatic 2-5 win. Dewsbury scored early on 5 minutes.

Colton recovered with 3 goals in a 7 minutes spell. Joe Spencer scored from the second phase of a Joe Horner free kick on 13 minutes; Jono Goodwin gave Colton the lead 4 minutes later with a crisp close range volley after great build up play from Max McCormick and Danny Coates. Goodwin turned provider for McCormick’s goal on 20 minutes and at half time it was 1-3.

Dewsbury were not sure what hit them. Colton almost scored their fourth immediately from the restart however the opportunity was missed. Nevertheless, they did get their fourth on 50 minutes when Danny Coates was put through by Goodwin and his left foot shot arrowed into the top corner.

With 20 minutes remaining, Dewsbury pulled one back with a well struck volley on the angle. 2-4. Not to be outdone however, Colton regained their 3 goal advantage when Coates got his second (5 in 4 games now) as he placed the ball over the keepers head after a pass from McCormick.

Final score 2-5
