An even contest, though Marys had the majority of possession and on the balance of play deserved the win. A win that could have been bigger were it not for two penalty saves by Adam Hartley in the Colton net. Colton played some decent stuff when they got the ball on the deck. Marys were quicker to the ball across the pitch.

With a few young debutants; Conor Bradley being one of them giving an assured display, Colton took the lead on ten minutes. Chris Hick played a sublime pass from midfield into the path of Danny Coates and he slotted home. Colton’s lead lasted 15 minutes. Marys played a long ball over the top, and their forward took the chance well. 1-1

During the first half, Marys had to make an enforced substitution, as one their players landed awkwardly as he jumped for a header. It looked like a serious injury to his knee. We hope that he recovers quickly.

Marys were awarded a penalty prior to the half time whistle. However Hartley saved to his right. A superb stop. Hartley also pulled off a super reaction save from a close range shot.

Half time 1-1

Play was much of the same in the second half. Marys dominated possession; Colton held them at bay. A few chances went begging for the visitors and it looked like it was going to end up all square.

However, Marys took the lead on 75 minutes with another long through pass and the ball ended up in the far corner. 1-2. Five minutes later, another penalty to Marys. Again, Hartley pulled off an outstanding stop this time diving low to his left.

Colton had an opportunity to snatch a draw late on but the chance wasn’t taken.

Final score 1-2
