This game was an oppurtunity for both teams to make a statement to the league, both teams winning both their first games and looking to continue their winning runs. It was a full blooded affair, a very competitive match but after some early pressure from the visitors, Colton took hold of the game and started to display a confident, mature performance. Chris Hick converted for the first goal, a freekick lifted into the box, a lovely flick pass from Tom Whelan and a calm finish in the bottom left hand corner 1-0. Adam Kinghorn got the second, a sublime piece of play starting with a lovely through ball pass from Danny Coates into the feet of Adam, a first time Bergkamp-esque touch around the defender, a burst of pace and a lovely placed finish bottom left. The drama of the first half did not stop their an alleged deliberate elbow to the nose of Tom Whelan left him blooded and tensions boiled. 1 minute before the end of the half, a soft, suspect penalty was awarded to HSM Res, Adam Hartley - Man of the moment in the goals pulled off a fantastic save down to his right to keep the score 2-0 at half time. 2 - 0 is never a safe scoreline and HSM res scored within 5 minutes of the restart. Colton stayed composed and with his second assist of the day Danny Coates swung in a corner which was converted by Chris Wayman, some even claiming a scorpian kick. HSM Res managed to pull another back making it 3-2 and with 15 minutes to go all was to play for. However it was evident that HSM Res were becoming frustrated by the Quality shown by Colton AFC, as tackles were becoming later and a yellow card was issued. With only 5 minutes to go Colton sealed the game with a quick counter attack, a through ball from Kinghorn, onto the running forward Chris Hick who slotted the ball home 4 - 2. Overall an excellent team performance from all.
