Firstly thanks to Scott and some other Sandal players for returning to our place for refreshements. Now for the game. As usual, a cracking match was served up by both teams. Colton had the earlier momentum and Sandal aimed to catch Colton on the break. The first 20 mins were a little untidy, however agaisnt the run of play Sandal scored from close range from their first foray in to the Colton Box 0 -1.
A lovely through ball from Jordan Thackery, saw Goodwin through on goal but the on rushing keeper did well to block the shot. Some of the decision making in the final third for Colton was letting them down. Half time 0 - 1.
Colton set off quickly after the restart and scored two in ten mins. Danny Coates latching on to a through ball from Chris Hick, which he slid under the keeper for his first. Coates then got his second on 54 minutes when Jono Goodwin went on a mazy run, bamboozling the Sandal defence, laying the ball to Coates for his second. 2 - 1.
Colton had their tails up. A low cross from Coates saw Goodwin come inches away from Coltons 3rd. Similarly when Josh Naylor tried to find Thackery. Chris Wayman also headed over the bar from a corner. Surely a 3rd would come soon.
However the Wakefield side are made of stern stuff and equalised on 66 minutes with a blistering strike from outside the box leaving Hartley in net grasping thin air. Finally on 81 minutes Thackery scored from the edge of the box after a super low cross from Naylor, 3 - 2. Sandal pressed hard again with the wind behind them they challenged Colton's goal from a few late corners but the defence held firm.
In the last minute, Hartley collected a very difficult high cross under the bar and immediatley released Goodwin on to the counter, he found Coates who slotted home for his hatrick.
Colton's unbeaten run continues with a 4-2 win. There is still plenty to work on and more to come. Confidence is our friend, complacency an ememy.
