Thank you to Garforth for the after match refreshments; and also for ensuring that the pitch was playable.

In atrocious weather conditions, both sides gave their all. Colton struck early (6 minutes). Danny Coates’s corner was half cleared. Chris Hick was lurking just inside the penalty area with his back to goal, he hit a fierce shot whilst turning beating the Garforth ‘keeper on his near post, goal into the top right hand corner.

Soon afterwards, Garforth were reduced to ten men, when the referee gave a straight red.

Colton used the extra man advantage well and scored their second on 35 minutes when Jordan Thackery tucked home a close range effort after good work by the elusive Coates.

Further opportunities were created, however many were not taken. The Garforth ‘keeper kept his team in the game. Half time 0 – 2.

The second half was very much one way, as Colton pressed for further goals. Colton scored on 49 minutes with the first of Jono Goodwin’s, 3 goals when Hick played him a sweet lofted ball, Goodwin brought it down well and slotted home. Goodwin’s second came 3 minutes later; Ben Vickers with the assist. 0 - 4!

To be fair to the hosts, they kept trying and their centre mid kept urging his team mates on to keep battling.

Colton kept pressing, playing some really good incisive football and had other opportunities; again the Garforth ‘keeper, arguably their Man of the Match kept making great saves. However, on 69 minutes Colton scored their fifth, with Joe Horner poking home from close range.

A minute later, Goodwin got his third goal after Thackery set him up after a mazy run from the half way line which was a joy to see.

Final score 0 – 6

Colton host Tyersal next week.
